How was Jesus present to me when I had an experience of my life being transformed and transfigured?

A key Bible verse that reflects a transformative experience like a "transfiguration" is 2 Corinthians 3:18, which says, "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.".
Other verses that could relate to this experience include:

Romans 12:2:
  • "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
  • Matthew 17:2 (The Transfiguration story):
"And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white."
  • Galatians 2:20:
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
  • Colossians 3:10:
"and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its creator."

Key points to consider:
  • Presence of the Holy Spirit:
The transformation described in 2 Corinthians 3:18 is attributed to the Holy Spirit working within us, allowing us to reflect the glory of Christ.
  • Inner Change:
Transformation is not just an outward change, but a deep inner renewal of our minds and hearts.
  • Gradual Process:
The verse mentions "ever-increasing glory," signifying that transformation is a continuous process as we grow closer to God.

The experience you describe of feeling your life being transformed and transfigured can be interpreted through various theological and personal lenses, depending on one's beliefs and the framework one uses for understanding spiritual experiences:

  1. Christian Theological Perspective:

    • Divine Presence: In Christian theology, Jesus is often understood to be present in the lives of believers in several ways:

      • Spiritual Presence: Jesus promised his disciples that he would be with them always (Matthew 28:20). Many Christians interpret this as Jesus being spiritually present, guiding, comforting, and transforming individuals through the Holy Spirit.

      • Eucharistic Presence: For those who celebrate the Eucharist or Communion, Jesus is believed to be present in the bread and wine, which Catholics believe becomes the body and blood of Christ, and in Protestant traditions, serves as a symbol or spiritual presence of Jesus.

    • Transformation and Transfiguration:

      • The term "transfiguration" recalls the biblical event where Jesus was transfigured on the mountain, revealing his divine nature to Peter, James, and John (Matthew 17:1-9). This event symbolizes transformation, where the earthly is touched by the divine. Your experience might be seen as a personal transfiguration, where you felt your life being changed in light of divine presence or influence.

  2. Mystical Experience:

    • Many describe mystical experiences as encounters where the boundary between the divine and the human seems to blur or become transparent. In such moments, individuals might feel an overwhelming sense of love, unity, or transformation, which could be interpreted as Jesus' presence manifesting in a deeply personal way.

  3. Personal Interpretation:

    • If you are asking from a personal standpoint, how Jesus was present to you during this transformative moment could be very intimate and unique:

      • Feeling Guided or Loved: Perhaps you felt an overwhelming sense of guidance, peace, or unconditional love, which you associate with Jesus' presence.

      • Scriptural or Symbolic Connection: You might have been meditating on scriptures, hymns, or symbols associated with Jesus, leading to a profound spiritual experience where these elements became more than symbolic; they felt real and transformative.

  4. Psychological and Emotional:

    • From a psychological perspective, such experiences might be linked to moments of profound personal insight, emotional healing, or resolution to internal conflicts, where the figure of Jesus acts as a catalyst or symbol for these changes.

To deepen this understanding or connect it more directly to your faith:

  • Prayer and Reflection: Spend time in prayer or meditation, asking for clarity or further revelation on how Jesus was present in your moment of transformation.

  • Community and Counsel: Discuss this experience with spiritual leaders or within a faith community to gain insights from others who might have had similar experiences.

  • Scriptural Study: Look into scriptures where Jesus interacts with individuals, leading to transformation (e.g., the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4, or Paul's conversion in Acts 9).

This experience, whether seen through theological, mystical, or personal lenses, underscores the profound impact that spiritual encounters can have on one's life, often leaving a lasting impression of divine presence and guidance
