Organizational Behavior

Friday

The Beginning

4:26 PM

I did not sleep well last night, so this morning I began the day by taking some awesome medicine (Tylenol PM and Baclofen for leg spasms), then promptly went back to bed and slept til 12 noon. A home health nurse came by and changed the bandage on my ass. Then my home healthcare worker came by and made shrimp fried rice. It was awesome.

Organizational Behavior: Securing Competitive Advantage

The Scientific Management Perspective:

In addition to its social science background, organizational behavior is also founded on research and practice shaped by four perspectives on management. One of these, the scientific management perspective, has concentrated on increasing the efficiency of job behaviors and production processes.

Theories about organizations and the people and groups within them initially took the form of management principles. These principles are intended to provide managers with advice about managing their firms. Most of these principles were written by management practitioners or others closely associated with the management profession. Among the first principles to be widely read were those of the scientific method perspective.

All principles of scientific management reflected the idea that through proper management, an organization could achieve profitability and long-term survival in the competitive world of business. Theorists sharing the scientific management perspective devoted their attention to describing proper management and determining the best way to achieve it.

Summary

Frederick W. Taylor's Principles of Scientific Management

  1. Assign all the responsibility for the organization of work to managers rather than workers.
  2. Use scientific methods to determine the one best way of performing each task.
  3. Select the person most suited to each job.
  4. Train the workers to perform the job correctly.
  5. Monitor work performance to ensure that specified work procedures are followed correctly and that appropriate results are achieved.
  6. Provide further support by planning work assignments and eliminating interruptions.

In Conclusion

6:30 PM

In sum, it been a glorious day. Though I did not sleep  well last night, I was proactive and I did what I had to do. I took drugs this morning. I went back to sleep and did not wake up till 12 noon. Then, I met with some friends and business associates. And then, I went right to work on my proactive business blog.

Have pleasant evening and a proactive tomorrow.
